Drive-by shooting in Opa-Locka leaves man dead, woman injured

Resident says he heard 'about 41 rounds going off'

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Opa-Locka police, along with the Miami-Dade police homicide division, are investigating a possible drive-by shooting that left one man dead and a woman with serious injuries Sunday morning.

More than two dozens evidence markers lined the road along York Street, between Northwest 20th Avenue and 21st Court.

Opa-locka police spokesman David Chiverton said an unknown vehicle pulled up to the area and shots were fired before the gunman took off.

Resident J.C. Black said he heard "about 41 rounds going off."

The man, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene, and the woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

Detectives did not have a motive, suspect or vehicle description, but they were in the process of interviewing several witnesses.

Local 10 News has learned the identities of the victims but is waiting until all families have been notified to release their names.
