Driver gets away before Tri-Rail train slams into truck

No injuries to truck driver, passengers on train

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. ā€“ A Tri-Rail train struck a truck Tuesday afternoon in Oakland Park, but the driver got away unscathed.

The train slammed into the truck on the Tri-Rail tracks near Prospect andĀ PowerlineĀ roads after a crash pushed the truck into the path of the train.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue Department Division Chief John Preston said the truck spun out and ended up on the tracks, but the driver saw the train coming and got out before it made impact.

The impact caused the truck to overturn and land on its roof.

There were 200 passengers on the train at the time, but nobody was injured.

The crash impacted Tri-Rail traffic, as well as vehicle traffic in the area.

South Florida Regional Transportation Authority spokeswoman Bonnie Arnold said a bus bridge was established to connect passengers from the Fort Lauderdale, Cypress Creek and Pompano Beach stations.
