Driver hits sunbather, crashes into own house

Sunbather suffers serious injuries; Driver suffers minor injuries

PLANTATION, Fla. – A driver crashed through several fences, hit a sunbather, then slammed into her own home in Plantation.

The crash happened in the 5100 block of Southwest 21st Court. The driver somehow avoided crashing into two pools.

"They have a little girl and they're always in the pool everyday. So, I'm just so glad they weren't home," said Lauri Stillwell, who is house-sitting for a friend.

According to Plantation Fire Rescue, the sunbather was transported to Broward Health Medical Center. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Maya Amitzi.

The driver, a woman in her 60s, was transported with minor injuries. It's unclear what caused the crash.

"She's very sweet and a nice lady," said Anne Morinelli.

Neighbors said the driver crashed into their property about a year ago.

"She hit the mailbox and the plant. She paid for all that to get removed and we had to get a new mailbox," said Stephanie Turner.

There is no word yet if the driver will be cited for the crash.
