Driver leaves scene after crashing into Lauderhill home

Family sleeping inside treated for minor injuries

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Three people were injured Wednesday when a man crashed a car into a Lauderhill home before running away.

The crash, involving a black Honda sedan, was reported Wednesday evening at a home along Northwest 16th Street near Northwest 33rd Avenue.

Lauderhill Fire-Rescue Department Division Chief Jeff Levy said the car ended up about 20 feet inside the home, slamming through a wall and into a bedroom where two people were sleeping.

"They were in the room sleeping in their bed when that car came into the house, and they only walked out of there with minor injuries, so they were very lucky," Levy said.

The victims -- a couple and their child -- were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

A building inspector deemed the house unsafe for habitation. Kavis Bell told Local 10 News that everything inside his house is destroyed.

Police are searching for the driver.
