Driver plows into woman outside Hollywood homeless shelter

Police looking for white pickup, with damage to front wheel, bumper

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Police are looking for the driver of a white pickup truck that hit a woman outside a homeless shelter in Hollywood and then took off.

The incident happened along US-1, just south of Sheridan Street, near the Voice Homeless Shelter.

The victim was sitting outside with a man when the truck sped right past her, but then the driver reversed.

Surveillance video captured the truck zooming back and running over the woman.

"From what I can see, I think she has some internal injuries in her abdominal area," said Sean Cononie, who helped the victim and also runs the homeless shelter. "And, I would venture to say she probably has a broken hip and broken leg."

Cononie did what he could before paramedics arrived, and it's clear the driver knew he hit something, because aside from the woman's screams, he also took a chunk out of the building.

Police say the truck is likely a white, Chevy pickup. Investigators believe it has damage to the area around the front wheel or bumper on the driver's side.

The victim remains at Memorial Regional Hospital in critical but stable condition.
