Driver speeds through police checkpoint, crashes into SUV, police say

Driver arrested after crash

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. ā€“ A man driving a red Camaro that collided with a black SUV Tuesday in northwest Miami-Dade County was taken into custody.

According to police, the driver went through an Opa-locka police checkpoint "in an evasive manner" and almost pinned an officer.

Two people who were inside the SUV told Local 10 News reporter Terrell Forney that the Camaro ran a red light on Northwest 167th Street and 17th Avenue in Miami Gardens, causing the driver of the SUV to hit the Camaro.

Sky 10 was above the scene shortly after 10 a.m. showing extensive damage to the front of the SUV and the Camaro, which were parked nearby.

Police said the driver of the Camaro did not have any outstanding warrants, so it's unclear why he fled from officers.

No one was injured in the crash.
