Driver who crashed minivan into Plantation restaurant will not face charges

Nagmeldin Mohamed Abdalla, 53, believed to have suffered medical issue

PLANTATION, Fla. – A driver who crashed his minivan into a Middle Eastern restaurant Monday in Plantation will not be charged, police said.

Investigators believe Nagmeldin Mohamed Abdalla, 53,of Lauderhill, suffered from some kind of medical issue when he plowed into the restaurant in a shopping plaza at 1818 N. University Drive.

Authorities said Abdalla is a regular customer at the restaurant and possibly blacked out before the crash.

According to Plantation Fire Rescue spokesman Joel Gordon, two people were taken to Broward Health Medical Center and three people were taken to Westside Regional. He said the driver was among those injured in the crash and he suffered minor injuries.

A customer who was dining in the restaurant when the crash happened suffered serious injuries and remained at Broward Health Medical Center on Tuesday.
