Dynamic Airways plane that caught fire remained in dry storage for more than 2 years

NTSB preliminary report focuses on maintenance records

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A commercial airplane that caught fire on the taxiway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport had been in dry storage for more than two years before it returned to service in September.

The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary investigative report Tuesday detailing the airplane's maintenance records.

According to the report, the Boeing 767 had been in dry storage for about 29 months until September, when Dynamic Airways leased the plane. Dynamic had operated the plane for about 240 hours prior to the fire.

Investigators determined that the main fuel supply line coupling assembly had disconnected in the wing-to-engine strut above and behind the left engine. The coupling assembly has been retained for further examination.

Dynamic Airways flight 405 was preparing for takeoff last Thursday when the wing of the plane caught fire. A total of 21 people on the flight were injured, including one who still remains at Broward Health Medical Center.

Investigators said the fire did not penetrate the fuselage of the plane. They are expected to complete their on-site investigation Tuesday.
