State inspector finds 3 dead rodents inside Miami Beach restaurant

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Einstein Bros Bagels is offering free bagels to customers as an apology following Local 10's Dirty Dining report.

According to state records, the Einstein Bros location at 1500 Alton Road was ordered shut on July 24 during a routine, unannounced inspection.

An inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation noted 18 violations.

The inspector found three dead rodents on glue traps in a food preparation area.

"Two were dead under a soda dispensing rack and one was on a glue trap under a shelf where orange juice is kept," the inspector wrote.

The inspector also found rodent droppings under a sink and an accumulation of a black/green mold-like substance in the ice machine.

"At Einstein Bros Bagels, we are committed to providing the highest quality experience for our guests, and that includes the food we serve and the condition of our restaurants. We take any report to the contrary very seriously and put corrective actions in place immediately," said a spokesman for Einstein Bros. "Our team at the Miami Beach restaurant has worked diligently in cooperation with the local health department to address these issues. The department has since re-inspected the restaurant and all issues have been addressed to everyone's complete satisfaction. We apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused to our loyal customers and invite them to come in this Friday to our Miami Beach restaurant for a free bagel on us."

The free bagel will only be offered at the Miami Beach location on Friday, August 9.
