Elderly man cited after crashing into Fort Lauderdale dry cleaner

John Powell Jr., 85, cited for failure to use due care in crash that injured 7

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ An elderly man who crashed his black Cadillac Escalade into a Fort Lauderdale dry-cleaning business Friday has been cited for failure to use due care, police said.

Fort Lauderdale police said it's still unclear whether John Powell Jr., 85, was suffering from some sort of medical condition when he crashed into DryClean USA, 749 SE 17th St.

Police said Powell suffered minor injuries in the crash, as did six others.

The store owner said his business will be closed for at least several days as repairs are made. He said he believes Powell did suffer from a medical condition before crashing into his store.

"I say something's wrong with the guy," Sisnaraine Singh said. "It's got to be, to go all the way into the building."

Police released surveillance video from the business Monday that shows the crash.
