Elderly man threatens to blow Boca Raton postal worker's head off

90-year-old man arrested on charge of aggravated assault with firearm

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A 90-year-old man walked into a west Boca Raton post office with a gun and threatened to kill an employee Monday, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said.

The incident was reported at the USPS office in the 8100 block of Via Ancho.

The man, identified Tuesday as HB Shea, was filling out paperwork to ship a document when he got frustrated and slammed a pistol on the counter, telling the employee he wanted to "blow his head off," deputies said.

Lisa Pelligrinelli was inside the post office when the incident happened. Pelligrinelli said she remembers hearing an argument but had no idea what was happening.

"I saw the guys come in with the helmets and the M16s and the road (was) blocked off," Pelligrinelli said.

PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Shea was apprehended as he was exiting the building.

Shea faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a firearm and bringing a firearm into a federal facility.

Barbera said he was taken to West Boca Medical Center for evaluation before being sent to the main Palm Beach County jail.
