MIAMI -

A 23-year-old man shot his grandmother Sunday while fighting with his older brother over a cell phone, police say.

The incident happened at 22320 SW 117th Place.

Marian Hill tried breaking up a fight between Kenneth Smith Jr. and his 28-year-old brother, Robert Hill, when Smith shot at his brother, police say. He missed and hit his 83-year-old grandmother in the leg.

Hill was transported to Kendall Regional Trauma Center in stable condition. Family members said she was still there recovering Monday.

Police later arrested Smith and charged him with aggravated assault on a person 65-years or older, aggravated assault with a firearm, and battery. On Monday, charges were upgraded to attempted murder and a judge ruled he be held on no bond.
