Elevator working again at North Miami apartment

Wheelchair-bound man now able to go to doctor, work

NORTH MIAMI – A wheelchair-bound man living in a North Miami apartment says the building's elevator has been fixed after being broken for more than three weeks.

Wheelchair user Mark Merrian said the elevator is now working, following our Local 10 Investigation.

Merrian's on his way to work at the AAA. He'll be taking tickets as the Heat take on the Pacers again.

Local 10's Ross Palombo is still awaiting to hear from HUD if the building owner will be cited under the Fair Housing Act. That's the applicable law they may have violated by not having a working elevator for disabled tenants.

Also, the Americans with Disabilities Act mainly applies to public facilities. HUD was on furlough Friday because of the sequester cuts.
