FAA puts an end to a beer-delivering drone

Video of the delivery surfaces on YouTube

WASHINGTON – The Federal Aviation Administration has put an end to a beer delivering drone after a YouTube commercial showing the unmanned aircraft went viral.

Minnesota-based Lakemaid Beer company got the attention of the FAA after the video showed a six-propeller aircraft taking off from a Wisconsin bait shop and delivering a 12-pack of Lakemaid beer to ice fishers.

The FAA says it is illegal to use drones for commercial use, but Lakemaid Beer company's president Jack Supple thought he could get around the law if his company didn't charge for the beers. He was wrong and got a phone call from the FAA twice this week.

The video got more than 25,000 views on YouTube.

The FAA is currently reviewing whether to allow commercial companies to deliver goods via drones. A decision is not expected until next year.
