Fallen officers honored

Officers Amanda Haworth, Roger Castillo killed in line of duty Jan. 2011

DORAL, Fla. – Two Miami-Dade police officers who were killed in the line of duty were honored Monday.

In January 2011, officers Amanda Haworth and Roger Castillo were shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant in Liberty City. On Monday, Miami-Dade police renamed their warrants bureau in Doral to honor the two officers.

"I must say that Amanda and Roger were very unique in that they loved life," said Miami-Dade Police Dir. J.D. Patterson.

"Not a day, not a moment goes by that we don't think about Mandy and how much she meant to our family," said Haworth's mother, Susan Miller.

"We don't forget. We can't forget," said Magda Robaina, Castillo's cousin. "Because these were people that were so special and so important to our community."

Loved ones shared hugs and tears outside the building, a processing area now dedicated to two officers who had a big impact on so many lives.

"She left us these shining examples of what is truly important," Miller said. "She guides us in a way we can live our lives in honor and in memory of her."
