FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Family members of a man killed in a hit-and-run crash gathered Sunday night to remember their loved one.
Charles Blackledge, 46, was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night.
His half-sister, Tonya McElveen, made the 15-hour drive from Arkansas to gather with family and friends at a memorial and candlelight vigil for Blackledge.
"I'm not crying," McElveen said. "I'm angry right now."
Blackledge was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on his way back to his apartment.
A witness who lives near Dixie Highway and Northeast 16th Court heard the crash, rushed to the scene and made the call for help.
"If I see him, I want to kill him," Blackledge's roommate, Thomas Menninger, told Local 10 News. "You know, I won't, but I might. Who knows? If he sees me out here, watch out."
Dennis Collage said little is known about the car that struck and killed his friend.
"It was a silver car. That's all we really know," he said. "They took off. They barely hit their brakes."
McElveen said Blackledge will be remembered as a smart, caring and friendly man.
