Family of 6 displaced after fire in Lauderdale Lakes

Girl leaves stove on before going shopping with mom, sisters

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Three adults and three children were displaced after a fire damaged their home Tuesday night.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, a man returned home at 3531 NW 35th Terrace shortly after 7 p.m. to find his house was on fire.

Broward County firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which started in the kitchen.

Three sisters, ages 9, 14 and 15, were home alone. BSO spokesman Mike Jachles said one of the girls was cooking and left the stove on before the girls left with their mother to go shopping.

None of the residents of the home were injured.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family with temporary lodging and needs.
