Family of FSU shooting victim seeks help with medical expenses

Friends create online fundraising account for Farhan Ahmed

CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā€“ Friends of one of three Florida State University students shot by an alumnus at the main campus library have created an online fundraising account to help his family pay for medical expenses and long-term care.

Farhan Ahmed, 21, of Apopka, was one of three students wounded after 2005 FSU graduate Myron May opened fire at the Robert Manning Strozier Library early Thursday morning.

Friends said Ahmed, whom they call "Ronny," was shot three times and remains in the intensive care unit at a Tallahassee hospital. They said he was paralyzed from the waist down and isn't expected to walk again.

To help with his recovery, his friends created a YouCaring.com account. The goal is to raise $100,000.

Farhan "Ronny" Ahmed was one of three FSU students shot by an alumnus on campus.

Meanwhile, a special prayer was held Sunday at Saint Augustine Church in Coral Gables for the FSU students and community affected by the shooting.

Will Oldham, who graduated from FSU last spring and used to work at the library, attended the mass. He said some of his friends were there at the time of the shooting.

The Rev. Michael Carruthers praised Miramar shooting victim Elijah Velez, who returned home to South Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday and described the ordeal to Local 10 News.

"Quite a fine young man for a freshman who was grazed by a bullet to say I harbor no resentment," Carruthers told Local 10.
