MIAMI - Police in Miami identified the woman shot and killed near her home in Little Haiti.
Reports of gunfire led police to discover the body of Jacqueline Paul, 37, in the area of Northeast 56th Street and Miami Avenue early Thursday.
Neighbors gathered outside the crime tape as Paul's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office. Friends told Local 10's Sasha Andrade Paul was on her way home after buying a pack of cigarettes.
"When she go into the store and when she coming back, they start shooting at her and she start running, and she die right here," said one woman.
Paul was a few steps from her home when she was gunned down. Friends said she was a mother of two.
Police didn't call the shooting a drive-by, but said bullet casings were found spread throughout two and a half city blocks.
"We have several bullet casings spread out throughout several city blocks," said Miami Police Detective Willy Moreno.
A description of the gunman was not immediately available. Police were looking for a silver Chevrolet Cobalt seen leaving the scene of the shooting.
On Monday, four people, including two teenagers, were shot. The two teens were killed. Police have since named a suspect in that shooting.
Detectives don't believe the Monday and Thursday shootings are connected.
Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
