Dozens of rounds fired, man found dead

Witnesses: 60 to 70 rounds fired

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – A shooting killed one man Monday morning in Opa-locka and the search is on to find his killer.

The victim's father said that he found 25-year-old Christopher Smith at around 11 p.m. Sunday behind the apartment building where they both lived.

The victim had been shot multiple times.

"He did not deserve that," said Ahie Dawson. "That's what you would call an assassination."

Dawson said he was inside their apartment on 135th Street and 26th Avenue. His son, he said, was sitting outside the front door. That's when he said he heard was sounded like a machine gun.

"I heard so many shots, I couldn't count them," Dawson said.

Smiths' uncle, Willard Dawson, said this has crippled the family. Relatives say Smith was a good guy who made rap music and spent time with his 7-year-old daughter.

"She's going to miss her dad," Ahie Dawson said. "He was my friend and my son."

Police say two men were seen running from the building after the shooting but have not released any further information. No arrests have been made.
