BOCA RATON, Fla. -

Investigators say there were no crimes committed on Florida Atlantic University's Boca Raton campus as indicated by a 25-year-old student earlier this week.

According to FAU's police department, 25-year-old Vincent Philipps of Coral Springs was not approached by five men upon entering his car, and was not forced to drive to a local bank and then Coconut Creek.

Philipps did seek medical treatment for injuries at a local hospital later Wednesday evening, but authorities said those injuries did not occur as a result of any incident on the FAU campus.

Officials said Philipps met with FAU police Friday evening and confessed that he had fabricated the reported events as a cover for what actually occurred.

According to FAU police, Philipps alleged that he was battered in Broward County while paying off a drug debt.

Police said this remains an open investigation. The department said it will work with the State Attorney's Office regarding appropriate charges against Philipps.

In addition, police said Philipps will be subject to FAU's Student Code of Conduct disciplinary process.
