Ferguson commission to examine systemic inequality

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon swore in the 16 commission members

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon swore in the 16 members of the Ferguson Commission Tuesday.

The independent commission has the job of examining any inequities and provide "actionable recommendations." But the commission doesn't have the power to enforce any actions.

The commission is racially and politically diverse. Some fear the diversity will make it difficult for them to agree on the recommendations.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Kevin Ahlbrand is a member, who criticized Nixon on Fox News for talking about prosecuting the police officer who killed Michael Brown.

Rasheen Aldridge, also a member of the commission, is the director of Young Activist United St. Louis and is a Forest Park Community College student. He has been one of the critics of the police department.

"Big SWAT presence at City Hall," he tweeted earlier today.
