DORAL, Fla. - The former chief of the Doral Police Department defended himself Wednesday, one day after he was fired.
Ricardo "Ricky" Gomez was fired Tuesday. He said the interim city manager cited a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation into whether Gomez misused funds as the reason he was fired.
Gomez was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
"We have an ongoing lawsuit. We're suing people because they perjured themselves in that FDLE report, and for him to use that as the basis for my dismissal is wrong," said Gomez. "For him not to listen, give me any kind of due process is wrong."
Gomez is suing several city officials over that FDLE investigation. City of Doral officials had no comment about Gomez's news conference.
Gomez had been the police chief since the department started in 2008.
