Firefighter hospitalized after battling Miramar house fire

Boy playing with matches accidentally starts house fire

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A firefighter was hospitalized after battling a house fire Thursday in Miramar.

The fire started Thursday afternoon at 8624 Miramar Parkway.

A grandfather, two children and a 19-year-old were inside the house at the time of the fire, but they escaped safely.

The homeowner told Local 10 News her children didn't know how the fire started.

Miramar firefighters later said the fire was accidentally started by a boy playing with matches.

Firefighters spent several hours working to extinguish the flames.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital, possibly for smoke inhalation, but it wasn't immediately known why.
