Ward Towers evacuated after fire sparks in laundry room

Fire located, quickly extinguished, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue says

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Residents at the Ward Towers were removed from their homes Monday after a fire broke out in the building.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Erika Benitez said firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the building near Northwest 54th Street and Northwest 22nd Avenue.

The building was evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters located the fire in a laundry room on the first floor and quickly extinguished it, Benitez said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
