Firefighters rescue dog from Fort Lauderdale apartment fire

Dog rescued from 14th floor, treated by firefighters with oxygen

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Firefighters rescued and treated a dog Wednesday after a fire broke out in an apartment in Fort Lauderdale.

At around 6:45 p.m., crews responded to the two-alarm fire at 3000 Holiday Dr. around 6:45 p.m.

Authorities said they were met with heavy smoke on the 14th floor and fire in an apartment kitchen.

Firefighters rescued a dog from the unit where the fire was located, while extinguishing the fire. Fire rescue officials said the 14th floor was evacuated.

The fire was contained to the kitchen with smoke damage extending to the rest of the apartment and hallway, officials said.

The dog was treated by firefighters with oxygen and reported to be doing well, according to the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
