First Lady Michelle Obama campaigns for Charlie Crist in Miami Gardens

Obama calls on supporters to vote for Crist 'to finish what we started'

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – First Lady Michelle Obama is campaigning for Republican-turned-Democrat former Gov. Charlie Crist in South Florida.

Obama headlined a "Commit to Vote" rally for Crist in Miami Gardens on Friday.

The rally began at 5 p.m. at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th St.

"If you vote, we win," Crist told the crowd of supporters in attendance.

Crist needs a large black turnout to win back the governor's mansion. Who better to lead the charge than Obama?

"In this election, you have a simple choice," she said. "If you want a leader who shares your values and your priorities -- a leader who's going to help middle-class families get ahead here in Florida, then you have got to get out and you have got to vote for Charlie Crist."

Obama is the latest political figure to visit South Florida in support of Crist or incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

Vice President Joe Biden campaigned for Crist earlier this week, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie campaigned for Scott earlier this month.

Obama is even more popular than her husband, who has not campaigned for Crist.

"If we want to finish what we started then we need to elect Charlie Crist as governor of Florida," Obama said.
