CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -

A teacher at a Broward County school has been arrested on a grand theft charge after she funneled money another teacher's paycheck into her own account, police said.

Cibeis Carrillo, 40, was arrested in January at Westchester Elementary School in Coral Springs. She was a first-grade teacher at the school.

Dolly Garg said she was shocked to learn that a fellow teacher – someone she thought was a friend – had allegedly pilfered from her account.

According to a detailed Coral Springs police report, Carrillo accessed Garg's payroll page on the school district's employee website and managed to reroute Garg's check into her account.

Police said records show eight paychecks totaling more than $10,000 went into Carrillo's account.

According to the report, Carrillo told police she used the money to pay for her living expenses, including her son's college tuition.

Garg said she thinks Carrillo got onto the payroll site on a laptop that Garg left in the classroom.

Making Garg even more upset is that the school district refuses to pay her back. Garg said she was told to get the money from Carrillo.

Garg has asked the Broward County teacher's union and superintendent to help, but she said she's gotten nowhere.

As part of the criminal proceedings, a judge could order Carrillo to pay restitution, but that could take months.

Meanwhile, Carrillo has been removed from the classroom and administratively reassigned.
