Fishermen encounter great white shark off Fla.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A group of fishermen encountered what appears to be a great white shark off the coast of Fort Pierce.

The group of men woke up early to go spear-fishing 12 miles off the coast. One of the fishermen jumped into the water, and the first thing he saw was a shark staring back at him.

Another of the fishermen, Steve Maldonado, said that as his friend was getting out of the water, he could see a fin following the man back to the boat.

The fishermen scrambled out of the water and into the safety of the boat. Maldonado said they could see the shark circling their vessel in the crystal-clear water.

At first, they thought the shark may be a giant bull shark or a tiger shark with no stripes, but they wanted to be sure, so they took a video.

The shark followed the group for 20 minutes.

When they returned to land, the men looked at the video on a computer and singled out some still frames of the shark, which they said is almost definitely a great white.
