Fisherman spots suspected migrants on boat near Key Largo

8 men to be interviewed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard said a good Samaritan reported spotting what he believed to be a boat with migrants on board.

Rodney Barreto, who also spotted the boat, took video with his cellphone.

Barreto said one of the men jumped out of the boat and attempted to swim toward his boat. He gave the men water and oranges until the Coast Guard arrived.

The Coast Guard took eight men into custody. They will be interviewed Monday by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
