PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A Florida firefighter and SWAT paramedic has resigned after he was accused of selling prescription drugs.

Pinellas Park spokesman Tim Caddell says James A. Comer, 38, submitted a handwritten resignation late Wednesday.

Comer was arrested Saturday on 16 counts of dealing or possessing drugs. His medical license was suspended and he was placed on paid leave, pending an investigation. Comer also worked part-time in the emergency room at Northside Hospital.

He was arrested in the hospital parking lot. Authorities say he had 184 prescription pills, including OxyContin, morphine and hydromorphone.

Comer remained at the Pinellas County jail Thursday morning.
