The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation is changing the way it inspects restaurants beginning July 1.
A news release from the state agency says its Division of Hotels and Restaurants will implement a risk scale with one requiring the fewest amount of inspections each year and four requiring the most.
The new inspection frequency program is expected to lower the regulatory burden for businesses that have a positive compliance history while allowing the DBPR to focus its regulatory efforts at businesses that may pose a higher risk.
Those businesses assigned with a risk level of one will be required to undergo one inspection per year, while those with a risk level of four will be required to undergo four inspections.
The requirement for the DBPR to conduct an inspection each time a complaint is received will remain the same.
