500,000 passengers expected to pass through airport this week

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The new runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is now fully operational, just in time for the busy holiday travel week.

The south runway opened Sept. 18, but its use was limited, as air carrier departures were primarily limited to eastbound departures and westbound arrivals.
