FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – A Gainesville couple was arrested Monday in Florida City after they left four young children inside a car while they shopped at Walmart, police said.

Danielle Bright, 26, and Johnathan Curley, 33, both of Gainesville, face charges of child neglect and failing to secure a firearm around minors.

According to an arrest report, an off-duty officer found the children, ages 4 to 9, alone in a gray vehicle as the car alarm was sounding.

Florida City police found a loaded black 9 mm Glock inside the driver's front-door panel, where the children could easily reach it. A computer check of the gun revealed no ownership records.

Police said Bright and Curley returned to the car shortly afterward. Police said Curley told officers that he left the children with Bright, and Bright said she went into Walmart for five minutes because "it was that time of the month."

Curley told police that three of the children were his biological children and one was his niece.

Police said Curley also said that he didn't know that the gun was in the car.

Surveillance video from Walmart showed the couple entering the store together at 8:01 p.m. and leaving together at 8:35 p.m.
