Florida GOP try to link Charlie Crist, LeBron James

Social media campaign against Charlie Crist tries to politicize NBA player's decision to leave Miami for Cleveland

MIAMI - Florida Republicans tried to politicize NBA basketball news Friday.

Political social media marketers tried to capitalize on LeBron James' move to leave Miami for Cleveland.

They tweeted a link to a YouTube video titled Ran Away.

"Who knew Charlie Crist and King James would have so much in common?" the Florida GOP tweeted with a sign that said, "They both ran away."

In response, a representative with Crist's campaign said, "It's immature and a compliment to be compared to the greatest basketball player since Michael Jordan. Also, LeBron came to Florida while Charlie Crist was governor and left while Rick Scott was in charge. The only thing Rick Scott probably knows about basketball is how to steal -- mostly from seniors and the middle class."

Other Florida Republicans used social media to thank James for helping the Miami Heat win.
