Florida will be receiving disaster relief funds after severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding occurred in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
President Barack Obama declared a major disaster and signed the declaration Tuesday. These funds are going to the severe weather conditions faced from April 28 through May 6.
The assistance can include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property loses, and other programs for home and business owners alike. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said that damage surveys are continuing in other counties and additional forms of assistance can be designated after the assessments are fully complete. They also said that those with sustained loses in those two counties can begin applying on Wednesday for assistance by registering online.
