DAVIE, Fla. ā€“ One person was shot and killed at a Pollo Tropical location in Davie on Friday.

According to police, an argument began inside the restaurant at 2390 S. University Drive and spilled out into the parking lot.

The suspect then shot the victim one in the chest in the parking lot.

A co-worker of the victim drove to a nearby Chevron gas station to get away.

"He tried to protect him as best as he could," Davie police Capt. Dale Engle said. "He stopped here, and as the officers came in the parking lot, they were flagged down by these people who were trying to assist this guy who had been shot."

Police said the suspect is now in custody.

"We are heartbroken to learn that the victim in this senseless shooting has died, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. We thank the police for their quick action in apprehending the suspect and are assisting in their investigation," Hector Beovides, Pollo Tropical's regional director, said.Ā

Sky 10 was overhead where numerous officers were at both scenes, interviewing witnesses to the shooting.

Police tape cordoned off an area near two pickup trucks with clothing and what appeared to be gloves on the ground.
