Police officers kill armed 28-year-old woman in Sunrise

BSO deputies investigate fatal police-involved shooting

SUNRISE, Fla. – A police officer shot and killed a 28-year-old woman Friday night in Sunrise, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The Sunrise Police Department's SWAT team responded to a home on Hiatus Road and Northwest 40th Street. Police officers said Kristen Ambury confronted them with a gun.

BSO deputies, who were investigating the fatal shooting, reported Ambury was threatening to hurt herself. Relatives said she had a history of mental illness and was likely intoxicated.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will also be involved in the investigation.

Deputies were asking anyone with information to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Correction: A different version of this story erroneously identified Ambury as a U.S. Army veteran.
