Driving westbound, the ATV with Edwards and Griffin reached an intersection at the same time as a car coming from the north. The car did not see the ATV and continued through the intersection.

Edwards swerved to avoid a collision with the car, but the sudden change of direction ejected him and Griffin from the ATV.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said it's possible that both Edwards and Griffin hit the car during the fall.

Griffin and Edwards were transported to the hospital, where Griffin was declared dead.

Edwards' injuries were non life-threatening.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and aided in the investigation. The BSO said that driver-impairment, excessive speed, mechanical malfunction and environmental conditions did not play a factor in the accident.

No one has been charged in the incident.
