BROWARD, Fla. – A fast-moving brush fire that started on Wednesday in the Everglades Holiday Park area of western Broward County continued burning on Saturday morning.
It had grown to more than 6,600 acres, according to the Florida Forest Service's latest report.
"Currently no structures threatened," FFS spokesman Scott Peterich wrote on Twitter. "Last night counter fire went well."
A fire weather warning was in effect in areas of Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties until 8 p.m.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles reported the wind and dense smoke were making the firefighters' job difficult.
Although the fire was about 85 percent contained, the smoke from the flames prompted the closure of Mack’s Fish Camp near U.S. Highway 997.
Marshall and Keith Jones, the camp's owners, weren't expecting the wildfire risk to affect them until May.
