Cops: Man tapes woman's hands together, rapes her

Roshan Bhattarai charged with sexual battery

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A man has been arrested and charged with sexual battery after forcing a woman he met for ice cream to have sex with him, according to authorities.

It happened Sunday at the 1915 North University Drive in Coral Springs.

The Coral Springs Police Department said Roshan Bhattarai, 31, met his victim on an online social network, where the two made arrangements to meet on Sunday.

According to the arrest report, the alleged rape happened after the woman got into Bhattarai's car. Investigators say he drove to a parking lot, pulled the victim's pants down and forced himself on her.

According to authorities, the victim repeatedly told Bhattarai that she did not want to have sex with him. Bhattarai taped the victim's hands together with duct tape, police said.

Afterwards, Bhattarai dropped the victim off at a restaurant, investigators said. That's when the victim called 911 and reported the incident.

According to police, the victim provided a description of Bhattarai and his vehicle. Authorities said they located Bhattarai in Tamarac, where the victim positively identified him.

Investigators said the victim directed law enforcement to the location where Bhattarai parked his vehicle, where a used condom was found lying on the ground.

Coral Springs residents Monday told Local 10's Janine Stanwood they were shocked to hear about an alleged rape in their community.

"It's really scary to know that even if you are in a public place, you're still at risk," said student Rachael Dennis.

Many said the familiarity of social networking can give people looking for friendship or romance a false sense of security.

"This online stuff -- you could be anybody you want behind some pictures. So, to me, you're taking a big gamble. A big risk," said resident Gary Mulé.

Records show Bhattarai was arrested in Dallas County for assault in June of 2001, but that case was dismissed.
