Cops: Officers open fire on home

Authorities investigate police-involved shooting

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in Florida City, the Miami-Dade Police Department said.

Police said they were forced to open fire on a home at 326 NW 8th Avenue around 8:45 p.m.

According to authorities, officers approached a home as part of an investigation. Suddenly, shots were fired at them, police said. Officers said they returned fire then backed away from the scene.

A short time later, someone showed up on their own to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, police said. Investigators said they have reason to believe that person is one of those who was in the house. The person's condition was not immediately unknown.

At least one other person was believed to have also fled the home. Police spent hours searching for the person in the northern section of Florida City. Police say they believe that person to be armed and dangerous.

Miami-Dade police have not said what type of investigation led them to the home in the first place.

No officers were injured.
