CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A 6-year-old boy was struck by a car Tuesday afternoon in Coral Springs, authorities said.
The incident was reported in the 3500 block of Woodside Drive.
Police said the boy walked into the path of a white Lexus that was heading north. Witnesses told Local 10 News reporter Derek Shore that the boy saw his sister on the other side of the road and bolted into the street to get to her.
Coral Springs Fire Rescue officials said the boy was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he is now in stable condition and expected to be OK.
Authorities said the boy suffered head injuries. Witnesses said he was conscious after being struck, but had blood coming from his face and mouth.
"He flew about 20 feet in distance and in height about 10 to 12 feet in height, as he flew into the air, and then hit the floor solid," Javier Diaz said. "He didn't scrape the floor or nothing. He hit solid on the ground. And that's when I ran over there. And his sister, she was picking him up from the floor and I started to scream at her not to pick him up. To leave him there."
Diaz and other witnesses tried to keep the boy safe on the ground until authorities arrived.
Police said the driver remained at the scene.
It's unclear whether she will be cited.
