Firefighter treated for heat exhaustion after battling Deerfield Beach warehouse fire

Medical supplies destroyed in large fire on Powerline Road

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion after battling a large warehouse fire Sunday night in Deerfield Beach.

The fire started at a warehouse on Powerline Road.

Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said firefighters from multiple nearby agencies were called to battle the flames.

Firefighters eventually extinguished the flames. Jachles initially said two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze.

The warehouse was home to a variety of businesses.

"There's probably eight bays affected," property manager Alicia Rae said.

A bay that stored medical supplies from a company called Alkali Scientific Inc. was destroyed.

"As you can see, the roof collapsed. It's going to have to be completely repaired," Rae said. "All of their product is a complete loss."

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but Rae vowed to do what she can for her displaced tenants.

"We always take care of our tenants," she said.

The building has been declared unsafe to be in.
