Fall kills construction worker

OSHA investigating

MIAMI – A seven-story fall killed a construction worker in Brickell Tuesday morning.

Corente Gumbs, a bricklayer for Pompano Beach-based Coastal Masonry, fell from the seventh floor at 1300 Brickell Bay Drive about 7:15 a.m., according to the Miami Police Department. His family said he was wearing a safety harness that snapped.

Gumbs, 29, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

Stephen Pietragall of Coastal Masonry said the company is "deeply saddened by the passing of our dedicated co-worker."

Gumbs leaves behind an 8-year-old son.
