TALLAHASEE, Fla. - If you text and drive, you may want to stop because it could soon be illegal in Florida.
Two Republican lawmakers in West Florida are pushing a bill through the Florida legislature that would make it illegal to text and drive.
According to House Bill 13, drivers caught texting while driving would be charged with a nonmoving violation on their first offense. If that same driver is caught again within 5 years, it would be a moving violation.
Cops would not be able to pull drivers over for texting and driving. Drivers would have had to have been pulled over for another reason.
Similar bills have been killed in the Florida house in the past, but political analysts believe HB 13 has a better chance of survival.
