Deputy Adam Gargulak saved a man from this charred SUV.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Florida deputy saved an unconscious man from a burning SUV that crashed into a large tree Wednesday night near Gainesville.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Adam Gargulak found the man unconscious inside the SUV.

Homeowners inside the Wilds Plantation neighborhood reported a high-speed collision involving an SUV that hit a large tree.

By the time Gargulak arrived at the scene, the vehicle was on fire. Gargulak tried to put out the flames with his fire extinguisher, but they began to spread.

Gargulak freed the man from his seat belt and helped him regain consciousness.

"I was just doing my job," Gargulak said.

#JustdoingmyJob Yesterday evening, Deputy Adam Gargulak was called to the Wilds Plantation neighborhood in SW Gainesville after homeowners reported a high speed collision involving an SUV that struck a large tree. Deputy Gargulak arrived to find the vehicle had caught fire and that the driver was unconscious inside. Deputy Gargulak attempted to extinguish the flames with his fire extinguisher, but the flames continued to spread putting the driver in great danger!!! The Deputy freed the man from his seatbelt and was able to get him conscious in order to safely remove him from the vehicle before the driver's compartment caught fire. When asked if he felt like a Hero, Deputy Gargulak simply stated "I was just doing my job". We are thankful for Deputy Gargulak and the number of Men and Women throughout this country who selflessly serve their community!
