TALLAHASSEE - Florida Gov. Rick Scott is refusing to drop his opposition to tuition hikes at the state's colleges and universities.
Scott will talk to a group of college trustees on Thursday where he will continue to insist that tuition be kept at current levels.
The governor said that the cost of going to college needs to remain affordable. He called a new proposal being considered by a task force to hold the line on tuition for some students a "good start."
Scott made similar comments on tuition earlier this year, but in the end, he was forced to accept hikes. State legislators included them in the state's nearly $70 billion budget in a way that Scott would have been forced to veto the entire state budget in order to block them.
