Police say Howe was showing the gun to another student on a privately chartered bus on the way to school on November 20, when it accidentally went off.

A bullet hit 13-year-old Lourdes Guzman, who was riding on the bus with her younger sister. She was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital, where she later died.

Howe was immediately taken into custody. He waived his rights to appear in court, but has been charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed firearm.

The hearing was reset to Dec. 20.
