Man arrested for allegedly raping victim at his home

Julio Cordero already on house arrest for drug-related charges

MIAMI – A Miami man already on house arrest for drug charges is now accused of violently raping a young woman he held in his apartment in the Allapattah neighborhood.

Julio Cordero is again in jail, this time held with no bond.

According to Miami Police arrest records, the 27-year-old woman accepted a ride home from Cordero from a cafe in Hialeah Saturday evening.  Instead of driving to her home, he detoured to his home where he raped her several times.

The arrest report indicates Cordero kept the woman against her will in him home under threat of death, brandishing two knives to bolster his threat, and that he raped her repeatedly before she was able to escape.

She was able to show police where Cordero lives.

Whether the two knew each other or the nature of their relationship is unclear.

Following the arrest Sunday night, detectives removed bags of evidence from Cordero's home.  They document two knives, used  condoms and various drugs.

In the Hialeah neighborhood from where Cordero took the woman, several cafe owners recognize him as a customer who usually arrives alone, and describe him as someone who ogles women.

Cordero told police his sex with the woman was consensual.

He is facing charges of kidnap, sexual battery and several drug related charges.
